Anthropic donates Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation

Anthropic is donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation, ClaudeDevs announced, placing the standard alongside MCP. The account said that 70+ agent platforms had integrated it since December 2025, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code. bcherny said that Agent Skills began as an experiment in Claude Code.

ClaudeDevs said that existing skills would keep working, licenses would remain unchanged and using or contributing to the standard would not require foundation membership. Engineers from Anthropic, Earendil, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and OpenCode will form its Technical Steering Committee. The foundation welcomed Agent Skills, Open Responses, OpenEnv and OpenSandbox, bringing its hosted projects to 10 in its first year.
